Try

Should one continue,
To hold on,
To something they know,
Will eventually slip through their fingers?
Should one just let go now,
So to save the pain,
Of watching it leave later.
Should one,
Try to find,
The silver lining,
To this ever growing cloud of misery?
When will this time,
Of heartbreak and sorrow come?
How will it happen?
Will it be swift and less painfull?
Or will it be a slow,
Agonizing process?
Consuming our entire soul,
Dragging it to the deepest pits of dread and despair.
Suffocating our very soul,
Until all hope of being happy,
One last time,
Slithers away,
Out of sight.
Out of mind.
Should one try change the inevitable future?
Is it even possible?

War

What possible course of action,
Is there to take,
When you are fighting,
A battle,
In which,
The odds of defeat,
Far outweigh the odds of victory.
When every decision you make,
Doesn't appear to tilt the scales,
In your favor.
Should one still continue to fight,
Even when all signs,
Point to an inevitable letdown.
Should one struggle onward,
Praying for the day,
In which a battle will be won,
That results,
In the tides of the war,
Being shifted.
Will the external forces of opposition,
Still persist,
In doing all they can,
To see you fail?
How many paths are there to take?
Which one is the right one?
The one to choose?
Maybe all of them lead to certain victory.
Perhaps all of them,
To agonizing defeat.

Sunrise

The new morning,
A fresh beginning,
The dawn of a new hope.
Greeted by the rising of the sun.
The warmth of its rays,
Gives new life,
Into those,
Who have felt so dead,
And empty inside.
It fills our hearts,
And our souls,
With hope,
And the courage to continue onward.
Forever,
It may seem,
That the sun lingers in the sky.
Its never ceasing presence,
And path revealing light,
May eventually become a second thought.
Becoming less meaningful to us,
As time goes on.
And then,
We look out onto the horizon,
Only to see,
The last visible sign of life,
Radiating for the giant sphere.
The thing that we have come to love,
Begins to slowly fade away.
As we watch from the distace,
Not a thing we can do do.
We look back to see,
If three was anything we could have done,
In order to prolong,
The inevitable event,
That is taking place before our eyes.
In no time at all,
The sky begins to fade away.
However,
It does not disappear completely,
But leaves a piece of itself behind.
Though not nearly as spectacular,
As the thing itself.
But still just enough,
To remind us of what was once was.
What are we to do?
After that dear thing slips away.
Into the abyss.
Should we give up hope once more,
As we have done,
So many times in the past?
Or shall this time be different?
Shall we treck along in the darkness,
With hope never failing?
Should we,
With full determination,
And the utmost commitment,
In order to wait it out,
To continue on,
Waiting for a time,
For that which you love,
To come up over the horizon,
More than ready,
To brighten our lives once again.
Now this never ending cycle,
Or sunrises,
And sunsets,
May occur,
Many more times,
Than we may imagine.
Sometimes,
The days may seem long,
Almost never ending.
There are also the times,
Where the night,
And the dark,
Seem to envelop everything we hold dear.
But we must not fret.
For the night is always darker,
Just before,
The suns rises over the peak.
I don't know about you,
But I plan,
On fighting through the night.
Never wanting to let go,
Of that which I love.

Intentions

What are intentions?
Who decides whether or not,
Those intentions,
Are good or bad?
Perhaps,
Everyone perceives their intentions as good,
Or beneficial,
In some way,
To those who are involved.
Is it possible,
For one to realize,
That their well intentioned action,
In reality,
In not beneficial,
But in fact completely opposite.
Maybe even potentially harmful.
There is a possibility,
That a good intention,
Can become a hindrance,
To a relationship.
Is it possible,
For one to realize,
This miscalculation of judgment?
Who knows?
Perhaps some people can.
Others,
Questionable.

Future

The future:
What exactly is the future?
Is it simply a point in time,
That no one has yet experienced?
Or,
Is the future something more?
Could the future be,
A combination of every choice ever made,
Influencing every other choice,
Still influencing us to this day.
Will this chain,
Of choice and consequence,
Ever come to an end?
Or will it,
Continue its unceasing widespread,
On the people of today?
Will this affect the choices and actions,
Of the people tomorrow?
Do some people look forward to tomorrow?
Embracing that which is to come?
Do others loath the very thought of it?
Wishing that the morning will never come?
Are there others who are apathetic towards the situation as a whole?
Not caring what happens,
But simply going with the flow of things?
Is it possible,
For one to change the outcome of the future?
To decide what will happen to them?
Who knows?
All I know is,
That there are a few things,
I will make certain,
Happen in the future.
What are these things you may ask?
These things are few in number,
But very close to my heart,
And I will fight every waking moment,
Making sure they happen.

The day progresses,
As almost every other,
Simply sliding along,
Just to get by.
Not much happening,
Just simply waiting,
For the moment,
Where the feeling of butterflies,
Fill my stomach,
The beat of my heart,
Begins to increase,
A sudden surge of happiness & peace,
Blankets my entire body,
And calms my senses.
The entire world seems to disappear,
As you walk toward me,
A simple smile and “Hello”,
Brightens my entire day.
Suddenly,
The decision to get out of bed that mornings,
Seems very worth it.
If only time,
Would stand still,
So this moment would never end.
Then,
After a time,
We must depart,
Not wanting to let go,
You slip away for a time.
The second you are out of view,
I begin to miss you.
But alas,
Even though it may seem like forever,
It really isn't long,
Until we are together again.

Emotions

Emotions are a funny thing,
They have the ability,
To do many things to a person.
They can alter the way a person thinks,
How they act,
What they believe,
Who they trust,
And how they live.
Different emotions,
Affect people,
In different ways.
Anger can cause people,
To think rashly,
Jump to quick conclusions,
Make false assumptions,
And say things that they may not mean.
It may cause us to take out feelings,
Of the past,
On that person in our present.
Anger can quickly bring a relationship,
To its knees,
Choking,
And suffocating it,
Until it dies,
And withers away.
Becoming only a memory of the past.
Anger is potentially the strongest emotion,
That a person may feel,
If one lets it consume their mind.
However,
There is an alternative.
An opposite to this dark force,
Completing the balance.
This alternative to anger,
The the greatest emotion,
Any person can feel.
Even more powerful,
Than the overwhelming feeling of anger.
The one thing,
That makes life worth living.
Love.
The reason to be happy.
A reason to smile.
To get out of bed,
To be kind to a stranger.
Love can cause a person,
To act even more different,
Than anger.
It can completely alter your state of mind.
You start doing things,
That you may not do otherwise.
Your every thought,
Revolves around that one person.
You get to the point,
Where all you need,
In order to smile,
And be happy,
Is to think of a memory,
With that person in it.
Nothing makes you more happy,
Than seeing them smile,
Hearing them talk and laugh.
Nothing brings a bigger smile to your face,
Or make your eyes glow as bright,
As when you hold that person in your arms.
Feeling their warmth and love being returned.
As your embrace that person,
The rest of the world seems,
To simply,
Disappear.
During those moments,
Nothing else matters.
A feeling of comfort and safety,
Blankets your senses.
Causing you to feel a calm and peace,
That none other can compare to.
A reassuring feeling,
That someone cares for you,
So much,
That they do not look at your faults and weaknesses,
As a bad thing,
But as something,
That can be improved upon,
In order,
To better your life,
And the lives of those around you.
You may come to a point,
Where you,
And that special person,
Have created a bond,
Stronger than many others.
Where you can tell each other anything and everything,
And they can help you understand your thoughts,
Better than you can,
By yourself alone.
They are able to shed light,
Onto the dark sections of life.
Where you start staying up,
Late into the night,
Only to sneak onto the phone,
So that you may talk to that person,
Just a little bit more.
Where you want to spend every moment,
In their presence,
Not only because they are your significant other,
But because,
They are your best friend.
You feel more comfortable,
And more like yourself,
Around them,
Then almost anyone else.
And sometimes,
You feel sad,
Because you cannot fully express,
How you feel.
And you just want them to know,
How much they mean to you.
There are many differences,
Between anger and love.
It is better to feel,
One or the other,
Instead of nothing at all.
As for me,
I choose love.
For it is a feeling,
That I am addicted to.
Love is my religion,
And I would die for it anyday.

Appreciate

For Chris, Sam, and Caroline (along with many others).

Is it possible,
To fully express,
Your true feelings,
For a person?
To tell them,
Just how much,
You love them?
How much you appreciate,
Everything that they do.
To let them know,
How everyday,
You are thankful,
For their presence in your life?
To let them know,
That they really have changed your life.
How that they make you laugh,
Not only at them,
But yourself.
To share with them,
The feeling that you get,
When they hurt you in some way.
How you feel,
When you cannot talk to them.
Or to let them,
Share with you,
In your joy,
When you are happy.
Is it at all possibly,
To share these feelings,
With your close ones?
To give them an idea,
How much,
They really mean to you?
Maybe it is.
Who knows?

Standards

Do people really,
Live up tot he standards,
That are set for them?
Or do we always fall short?
Not quite reaching that bar,
Which was set so high.
Is it possible to make it,
If the proper motivation is given?
Or maybe people saying that you can't,
Will give you the extra push that you need.
Perhaps,
It will have the opposite effect,
And make you feel like what you're doing,
Just isn't good enough.
It varies from person to person.
For some one thing helps.
To others,
It hurts

Love

They say that love is blind.
I say,
Love is ignorant.
For it is not that you cannot see the faults,
But refuse to look for and notice them.
Love is not finding a perfect person,
Who has no faults.
but rather,
Finding an imperfect person,
To look past their faults,
Making them perfect,
In your eyes.
Now my friends,
That,
Is love.
When the only thing that consumes your thoughts,
Is how that person makes you smile,
Every time you hear their voice,
Their laugh,
See them smile.
How even when they hurt you,
You can't help but think about them still.
How when life seems to dark to continue,
They brighten the way,
With a few simple words.
how they know everything about you,
Yet still like you,
Nevertheless.
That,
Is love.

Blah

Do ones feelings,
For another person,
Ever really change?
If you think of another,
As just a friend,
Will they remain,
Just a friend?
Or is it possible,
For them,
To be something more?
Or do the original feelings,
Stay in tact,
Never changing,
Always remaining the same,
No matter what happens,
Despite what you think you feel.
I think they can change,
Given the person,
Is willing to let them change.
Otherwise,
There is no room for alteration.

Interests

To this day,
It still bothers me,
How people,
Seem to bring others down,
For something that they like,
For something they enjoy,
Why is it,
That we,
As people,
Do this?
To shun others,
For their personal preferences.
Because their interests,
Differ from our own.
How come we can't,
Accept the simple fact,
That we are all different,
Despite the similarities.
Is it possible to realize,
That all our likes,
And dislikes,
And everything related to them,
Vary so greatly?
No matter who you are,
And what you believe.

Dress

Why is it,
That people get all dressed up?
Why do people find the need to,
Get 'pretty'?
Is it to impress others?
To be accepted?
To fulfill some personal motive?
Or could it be,
To live up to a standard,
That was set,
Years before our time?
Whatever the reason may be,
Make sure,
That however you choose to dress,
However you style yourself,
That is is how you want it.
That it is something,
That you want to do.
Don't do something,
Simply because,
It is what others expect of you.
Do it because you like it.
Plain and simple.
Is it so wrong,
For one to want to fit in?
To be accepted by their peers,
To be liked for the person they are.
Is it a bad things,
The be who you are?
And like what you like?
So what if it happens to be the same,
As countless others.
Should that stop you,
From enjoying something?

?

What can you do,
When every decision you make,
Seems to be turned against you.
And everything goes wrong.
Meeting nothing but resistance and opposition.
With every step that is taken.
When even your closest of friends,
Begin to become distant,
And all you re left with,
Is song,
And memories.
Sitting in the darkness,
And by yourself,
Not a single hint of light,
Can be seen,
In every direction.
As though no matter what you choose,
Some one will lose.
Be it yourself,
Or another close one.
No one can win.
Where can you turn,
For comfort,
And support?
For friendship,
And love?
Where can you turn,
To find one that will help?
Is there even such a place?
Or will they all disappear,
As they did before.
Leaving you in your time of need.

Feelings

I find myself,
Always thinking of you.
Seeing you in my mind,
Trying to see into your life,
To search for the place,
Where I belong.
Is there room enough in your heart?
My feelings remain the same,
Nothing has changed for me,
I still long,
To be by your side,
To see your smile,
Hear your laugh,
Stare into your eyes.
For reasons I know not,
I keep coming back,
Even after so much has changed.
I do not want to lose you,
But it seems as though,
All hope is lost.
Perhaps eventually,
I can move on.

Sorry...

The old saying,
Words once said, can never be recalled,
Rings in my ears,
As the bitter words of truth,
Are silently slid my way.
Nothing can take back the things I've said,
No amount of words can make up,
For that which has happened.
All that can be done,
Is for me,
To learn from this experience,
For every experience,
Is a chance to learn.
For I regret nothing I've done,
I am only saddened by the outcome.
For now the ever powerful weapon of gossip,
Has taken this event,
And shared it with the world.
In one ear,
Out many mouths,
This string of twisted truths,
Willl circle the globe,
While the truth,
Is still putting on its shoes.
Nothing can be done,
To stop the momentum,
Of this great stone.
One must just wait,
Until the speed dies out,
And the piercing sting of lies,
Comes to a hault.
But by the times that happens,
The damage will be done,
No one will remember,
Where it started to roll,
Only what it was about,
And there isn't a single thing,
Any one can do.
Tiss the never ending cycle of life,
That we are all envelopped in,
Either by choice,
Or circumstance.

Over

Its over.
The flames have already begun,
Engulfing the bridge between.
It won't be long,
Until this connection,
Is completely gone.
There is no turning back.
The damage is done.
Nothing can be change that now.
I see you,
On the other side of the gulf,
Shining as bright as ever.
But the light,
Never makes it across.
You turn your back,
And begin to walk.
Where you go,
I do not know.
I only hope,
That where ever you end up,
You find happiness.
So long my friend.
You will be missed greatly,
Possibly more than you will ever know.

People

Since time began,
There has always been someone,
Or a group of people,
Who have been looked down upon,
For reasons that should not matter.
What they believe,
How they look,
The things they like,
Their personality.
For as long as man has been around,
There has been racism,
Sexism,
Prejudice,
Among many other things.
Many say these things are bad,
And they are.
However,
No matter what we do,
This problem will always be around,
There is nothing you can do to eliminate it,
You can only make it,
Better.
We must do our part,
To decrease the commonness of these problems.
We must do our part,
To be the better person.
Not to look down upon people,
Because we do not know them,
Or because they are different than ourselves,
For everyone is different,
Despite the similarities.
I don't like tomatoes,
Many of you may,
Who cares?
Deal and move on.
Tiss the same with everything else.

No More

No longer can I take this.
I am not your fool.
Your puppet,
I will not let you pull my strings,
For your amusement any longer.
I'm cutting these strings.
And making my own decisions.
This game we're playing,
Will no longer be at my expense.
If you want to play,
It must be by the rules.
No more sitting on the sideline,
Deciding whether or not,
You will play this round.
You are in,
Or out.
The ball is on your side of the court,
You can continue playing,
Or leave the game.
The choice is yours.
What will you do?
How will you choose?
Time is short,
For I may just walk away,
Ball in midair...

Definition of a Friend

What is a friend?
Is it someone who will bail you out of jail,
At 2 in the morning?
Or someone who would be sitting next to you,
Behind the bars,
Saying, "Damn that was fun."
Is is someone who makes a commitment,
Only to forget and break it.
One who gives you their word,
Just to go back on it.
Or are they someone,
That says something,
And means it.
That makes plans and keeps them.
Who calls not just when they're bored,
But just to talk.
Who would have you back through anything,
Despite how much they are against it.
A person who will tell you,
Straight to your face,
What they think of your actions.
How the feel about you,
Instead of telling other people,
And lying straight to your face.

Gone

What once was, is now gone. Will it ever come back?
The joy, happiness, and laughter has left, and is not looking back.
This heart, an empty abyss, longing to be filled again.
Searching for that which once was.
Will things ever be as good as they once were?
Only time will tell.
What lies in store, for you and I?
This bitter story unfolding before our eyes.

Chances

How many chances can one give to another,
Who is pushing away what they don't realize they have,
How can one turn their back on something they claim to care so much
about?
Will time reveal to them what was right in front of them?
When they do realize what they had, will it be too late?
Will they try to make things better?

Darkness

What does one do when engulfed by darkness.
Trapped in the labyrinth of a forest
Not knowing which way is out.
Barely knowing which way is up.
What can one do when all hope of finding the way out is lost?
The knowledge that there is an end to every forest is comfort enough to continue on.
For every great ending has a hard start.
The night is darkest just before the sun peaks over the horizon.

Inertia

Inertia:
A property that applies to more than just objects.
People are also subject to this eternal truth.
If one acts in certain ways, what would cause them to stop
Only opposition can bring about the change in people.
But what about when there is no opposing force?
One will continue to act as they do until forced to change.
How could we expect anything less?
We all know this philosophy to be true,
Yet none of us accept or admit that its there.
Always saying that given enough time one will learn to do the right thing,
When in reality we know this to be false.
Countless times has that statement been disproved,
Many of which we can recall.
Should we get our hopes up?
Hoping that just this once this concrete statement will have a different ending?
To each his own...

Slipping Away

One can't resist the feeling of helplessness when they see something they love slip away.
Watching, as it walks away, right out of your life.
The flower, found in the field of weeds begins to wither away.
Passing by without hesitation.
Without taking a second glance at the past, moves on to a new beginning.
Will that flower ever find its way back to the place which it was found?
The chances fade away, like sand gripped too tightly in the hand.
Blowing away in the wind.
Never to be seen again.

Actions

Is it possible for one to truly comprehend the ripple effect of their actions?
Can one know how their actions and words, both said and unsaid,
Can alter the course of some one else's life?
The mere idea of altering another's path through life,
Can boggle the brightest of minds for a lifetime.
One must come to realize that what they do and say ultimately affects another.
Regardless of it being intentional or not.
There is no way to prevent this crossing of paths.
One must simply try to do their best in helping the other their way.

Tragedy

When something traumatic or extreme occurs during ones life
Do you try to continue on as if things had never changed?
Do you keep smiling as though nothing is wrong?
Put up a facade of lies to please the people around you?
Will other people notice the blanket of deceit?
If they do will they care?
Will they also continue on as if they don't notice anything...?

Words

Words...
The knife that cuts without causing to bleed.
The effects of which leave no trace
But can inflict tremendous pain.
Said in one way
But meant in another.
Seeming as though so reassuring
When in reality, it is a bitter cup they deliver.
With great skill can these codes be deciphered.
Even then, confusion rings with the echo of unsurity.
Words expressed with lack of emotion
Meant to bring comfort
But delivered with a hollow feeling.

Despair

How is it,
That even in the darkest moments of despair,
All it takes,
To bring one from misery to joy,
Is something so simple,
One cannot help but wonder how it works.
Nothing extravagant,
No flashing lights, writing on the walls,
A simple word,
Said from the heart.
A beautiful sunset brightening the sky.
A lonely flower, glowing brightly for all who look.
No one can explain why such a simple thing,
Can turn even the loneliest days,
Into one worth living.

Tests

Loneliness. Isolation. Despair. Sadness.
These are the things that truly test the character of a person.
Does one become bitter during the constant bombarding of doubt and uncertainty?
Or does one pick themselves up from the pit of sorrow,
Pushing on to make the best of a terrible situation.
How will we choose to live when it seems as though all hope for happiness is lost?
What will we do to turn the tides in favor of joy?
I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
I'm going to open my mouth wide and say to the world,
Dish it out baby. and don't be stingy with the jalapeƱos...

Change

In a manner of minutes,
A persons life can completely change.
A whole new perspective can be taken.
Whether it be a better or worse change,
Is concluded from within.
For everything depends on perspective and opinion.
No two the same.
Tiss what makes us unique.
Tiss what makes things great.
For if everyone saw things through the same eyes,
What would the purpose of life be?
What would be accomplished?
Would anything be created?
Or refined? Altered? Destroyed?
Would there be a such thing as attraction or love?
Would the need to have choice cease to exist altogether?
Speculate we may on how things would be...

Direction

People tend to live go through life
In an omni-directional path.
Only seeing what they want to see
And not realizing that there is so much more around them.
Sometimes they do not see it because they do not want to.
Sometimes because they don't even know its there.
But when they finally do realize what has been there next to them the entire time,
Will it be too late?
Will that chance have passed by unknowingly?
Would they chase after it?
Trying to get it back?
What if they never do realize that which was always there?
What then?

Stereotypes

How is it that stereotypes work?
How is it possible to generalize an entire group of people with a single
word?
When all variables are taken into account,
It becomes impossible to summarize a person,
In a single word.
Peoples minds and emotions are so deep,
That another will never be able to understand them,
Despite how much time is spent with that person.
However,
We, by nature, still use stereotypes and generalization.
Why?
Because in all reality no one really cares for those he does not know.
People don't stereotype the ones who are close to them.
But do their peers.
People stereotype because it gives them a reason not to get to know
another.
There is always more beneath the surface.
Yet we fail to see it,
Blinded by our own lack of compassion for others.
Stereotyping gives people a reason not to get involved in the life of a
stranger.
Will they ever stop?
The odds are slim.
Are they ways to improve upon this inhumane habit?
Of course.

Searching

Why is it that we, as people, are always looking for something?
Always searching for something,
Which we don't know the location of.
Different for everyone.
Some its love,
For others possessions,
Many acceptance.
Is it because we are not satisfied with that which we do have?
Or simply because we know that we can achieve more.
What is the drive behind this endless quest?
Will the journey ever be complete?
Will that which we have searched for finally to within reach?
If ever this is accomplished,
What next?
What lies beyond the destination?

Yeah

A single spark,
And boom!
Looming coals flare back to life.
Burning as brightly as they did before.
However,
Hidden from the world in shrouds of darkness.
Only visible to those wanting to see.
No one knows the light they emit
Nor do they care.
The world moves on,
As though nothing has changed.
Yet, to the now burning fire,
The world is completely different.
Now seeing existence through a new light,
Things will never be the same.

Fire

Fire.
One of the most patient substance in existence.
Burning for hours, days on end,
to consume a single object.
Given the right circumstances,
The fire will consume all in its path.
Not hesitating to swallow up that which stands it its way.
The smallest of things can cause this great destroyer
To unleash its wrath on the lands.
Smoldering coals loom inside us all.
Requiring only a small gust of wind,
To burst into life.
Again obliterating all that oppose its fury.
These fires, emotions, must be handled
With the utmost delicacy.
As even the slightest mishandle,
Will send it out iof control,
Unable to be controlled again.

Friends

It's amazing,
How even when things are bad,
We can put up a wall,
Hiding ourselves from the outside.
Not letting anyone in.
Only opening the door for split seconds,
To those whom we can trust.
Excluding everyone else from your solitude.
Continuing onward in life,
As though everything is perfectly fine.
But if others took the time to look,
They would see that things aren't what they seem.
There is something else behind the facade of happiness.
Is there some one out there who truly wants to help?
Who wants to lift you out of the pit of loneliness,
To see you smile,
One more time.
Is it possible to count on anyone to lend a hand?
We cannot be sure.
We must find the strength in ourselves,
To push on as much as we can,
And then,
When the sky seems the darkest,
We will see the glowing stars,
That are our friends,
There to guide the way,
Smiling when we succeed.
Weeping when we trip.
Standing right there next to us.
Ready to stretch out their hands.
But sadly,
There will be those,
Who reach out for us,
Only to push us back.
Who put out their foot,
Causing us to stumble.
Can we call these people our friends?
Can we let them inside of our defenses?
We must shun them away,
For they bring nothing but sorrow.
We must look them in the eyes,
And say to their face,
This is where I stand!
Right here!
With my FRIENDS!

Ourselves

Is it possible,
For us to understand,
To know,
Without a shadow of a doubt,
Ourselves?
We may think we know who we are,
Believe that we know ourselves better than anyone.
When in reality,
We are as clueless as the next person.
On many occasions we say that under a given circumstance,
We will react in a specific manner,
But when that moment comes,
Nothing but contradiction rings in the air.
Time and time again,
We say to the world,
This is who I am!
But this is all a lie.
We all find ourselves doing things,
We never thought we would do.
For reasons, we don't know.
People do crazy things,
When they are in love,
Lust,
Anger,
Isolation.
It's impossible to know how we will react,
Until faced with that obstacle,
Or challenge.
