No More

No longer can I take this.
I am not your fool.
Your puppet,
I will not let you pull my strings,
For your amusement any longer.
I'm cutting these strings.
And making my own decisions.
This game we're playing,
Will no longer be at my expense.
If you want to play,
It must be by the rules.
No more sitting on the sideline,
Deciding whether or not,
You will play this round.
You are in,
Or out.
The ball is on your side of the court,
You can continue playing,
Or leave the game.
The choice is yours.
What will you do?
How will you choose?
Time is short,
For I may just walk away,
Ball in midair...

Definition of a Friend

What is a friend?
Is it someone who will bail you out of jail,
At 2 in the morning?
Or someone who would be sitting next to you,
Behind the bars,
Saying, "Damn that was fun."
Is is someone who makes a commitment,
Only to forget and break it.
One who gives you their word,
Just to go back on it.
Or are they someone,
That says something,
And means it.
That makes plans and keeps them.
Who calls not just when they're bored,
But just to talk.
Who would have you back through anything,
Despite how much they are against it.
A person who will tell you,
Straight to your face,
What they think of your actions.
How the feel about you,
Instead of telling other people,
And lying straight to your face.

Gone

What once was, is now gone. Will it ever come back?
The joy, happiness, and laughter has left, and is not looking back.
This heart, an empty abyss, longing to be filled again.
Searching for that which once was.
Will things ever be as good as they once were?
Only time will tell.
What lies in store, for you and I?
This bitter story unfolding before our eyes.

Chances

How many chances can one give to another,
Who is pushing away what they don't realize they have,
How can one turn their back on something they claim to care so much
about?
Will time reveal to them what was right in front of them?
When they do realize what they had, will it be too late?
Will they try to make things better?

Darkness

What does one do when engulfed by darkness.
Trapped in the labyrinth of a forest
Not knowing which way is out.
Barely knowing which way is up.
What can one do when all hope of finding the way out is lost?
The knowledge that there is an end to every forest is comfort enough to continue on.
For every great ending has a hard start.
The night is darkest just before the sun peaks over the horizon.

Inertia

Inertia:
A property that applies to more than just objects.
People are also subject to this eternal truth.
If one acts in certain ways, what would cause them to stop
Only opposition can bring about the change in people.
But what about when there is no opposing force?
One will continue to act as they do until forced to change.
How could we expect anything less?
We all know this philosophy to be true,
Yet none of us accept or admit that its there.
Always saying that given enough time one will learn to do the right thing,
When in reality we know this to be false.
Countless times has that statement been disproved,
Many of which we can recall.
Should we get our hopes up?
Hoping that just this once this concrete statement will have a different ending?
To each his own...

Slipping Away

One can't resist the feeling of helplessness when they see something they love slip away.
Watching, as it walks away, right out of your life.
The flower, found in the field of weeds begins to wither away.
Passing by without hesitation.
Without taking a second glance at the past, moves on to a new beginning.
Will that flower ever find its way back to the place which it was found?
The chances fade away, like sand gripped too tightly in the hand.
Blowing away in the wind.
Never to be seen again.

Actions

Is it possible for one to truly comprehend the ripple effect of their actions?
Can one know how their actions and words, both said and unsaid,
Can alter the course of some one else's life?
The mere idea of altering another's path through life,
Can boggle the brightest of minds for a lifetime.
One must come to realize that what they do and say ultimately affects another.
Regardless of it being intentional or not.
There is no way to prevent this crossing of paths.
One must simply try to do their best in helping the other their way.

Tragedy

When something traumatic or extreme occurs during ones life
Do you try to continue on as if things had never changed?
Do you keep smiling as though nothing is wrong?
Put up a facade of lies to please the people around you?
Will other people notice the blanket of deceit?
If they do will they care?
Will they also continue on as if they don't notice anything...?

Words

Words...
The knife that cuts without causing to bleed.
The effects of which leave no trace
But can inflict tremendous pain.
Said in one way
But meant in another.
Seeming as though so reassuring
When in reality, it is a bitter cup they deliver.
With great skill can these codes be deciphered.
Even then, confusion rings with the echo of unsurity.
Words expressed with lack of emotion
Meant to bring comfort
But delivered with a hollow feeling.

Despair

How is it,
That even in the darkest moments of despair,
All it takes,
To bring one from misery to joy,
Is something so simple,
One cannot help but wonder how it works.
Nothing extravagant,
No flashing lights, writing on the walls,
A simple word,
Said from the heart.
A beautiful sunset brightening the sky.
A lonely flower, glowing brightly for all who look.
No one can explain why such a simple thing,
Can turn even the loneliest days,
Into one worth living.

Tests

Loneliness. Isolation. Despair. Sadness.
These are the things that truly test the character of a person.
Does one become bitter during the constant bombarding of doubt and uncertainty?
Or does one pick themselves up from the pit of sorrow,
Pushing on to make the best of a terrible situation.
How will we choose to live when it seems as though all hope for happiness is lost?
What will we do to turn the tides in favor of joy?
I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
I'm going to open my mouth wide and say to the world,
Dish it out baby. and don't be stingy with the jalapeƱos...

Change

In a manner of minutes,
A persons life can completely change.
A whole new perspective can be taken.
Whether it be a better or worse change,
Is concluded from within.
For everything depends on perspective and opinion.
No two the same.
Tiss what makes us unique.
Tiss what makes things great.
For if everyone saw things through the same eyes,
What would the purpose of life be?
What would be accomplished?
Would anything be created?
Or refined? Altered? Destroyed?
Would there be a such thing as attraction or love?
Would the need to have choice cease to exist altogether?
Speculate we may on how things would be...

Direction

People tend to live go through life
In an omni-directional path.
Only seeing what they want to see
And not realizing that there is so much more around them.
Sometimes they do not see it because they do not want to.
Sometimes because they don't even know its there.
But when they finally do realize what has been there next to them the entire time,
Will it be too late?
Will that chance have passed by unknowingly?
Would they chase after it?
Trying to get it back?
What if they never do realize that which was always there?
What then?

Stereotypes

How is it that stereotypes work?
How is it possible to generalize an entire group of people with a single
word?
When all variables are taken into account,
It becomes impossible to summarize a person,
In a single word.
Peoples minds and emotions are so deep,
That another will never be able to understand them,
Despite how much time is spent with that person.
However,
We, by nature, still use stereotypes and generalization.
Why?
Because in all reality no one really cares for those he does not know.
People don't stereotype the ones who are close to them.
But do their peers.
People stereotype because it gives them a reason not to get to know
another.
There is always more beneath the surface.
Yet we fail to see it,
Blinded by our own lack of compassion for others.
Stereotyping gives people a reason not to get involved in the life of a
stranger.
Will they ever stop?
The odds are slim.
Are they ways to improve upon this inhumane habit?
Of course.

Searching

Why is it that we, as people, are always looking for something?
Always searching for something,
Which we don't know the location of.
Different for everyone.
Some its love,
For others possessions,
Many acceptance.
Is it because we are not satisfied with that which we do have?
Or simply because we know that we can achieve more.
What is the drive behind this endless quest?
Will the journey ever be complete?
Will that which we have searched for finally to within reach?
If ever this is accomplished,
What next?
What lies beyond the destination?

Yeah

A single spark,
And boom!
Looming coals flare back to life.
Burning as brightly as they did before.
However,
Hidden from the world in shrouds of darkness.
Only visible to those wanting to see.
No one knows the light they emit
Nor do they care.
The world moves on,
As though nothing has changed.
Yet, to the now burning fire,
The world is completely different.
Now seeing existence through a new light,
Things will never be the same.

Fire

Fire.
One of the most patient substance in existence.
Burning for hours, days on end,
to consume a single object.
Given the right circumstances,
The fire will consume all in its path.
Not hesitating to swallow up that which stands it its way.
The smallest of things can cause this great destroyer
To unleash its wrath on the lands.
Smoldering coals loom inside us all.
Requiring only a small gust of wind,
To burst into life.
Again obliterating all that oppose its fury.
These fires, emotions, must be handled
With the utmost delicacy.
As even the slightest mishandle,
Will send it out iof control,
Unable to be controlled again.

Friends

It's amazing,
How even when things are bad,
We can put up a wall,
Hiding ourselves from the outside.
Not letting anyone in.
Only opening the door for split seconds,
To those whom we can trust.
Excluding everyone else from your solitude.
Continuing onward in life,
As though everything is perfectly fine.
But if others took the time to look,
They would see that things aren't what they seem.
There is something else behind the facade of happiness.
Is there some one out there who truly wants to help?
Who wants to lift you out of the pit of loneliness,
To see you smile,
One more time.
Is it possible to count on anyone to lend a hand?
We cannot be sure.
We must find the strength in ourselves,
To push on as much as we can,
And then,
When the sky seems the darkest,
We will see the glowing stars,
That are our friends,
There to guide the way,
Smiling when we succeed.
Weeping when we trip.
Standing right there next to us.
Ready to stretch out their hands.
But sadly,
There will be those,
Who reach out for us,
Only to push us back.
Who put out their foot,
Causing us to stumble.
Can we call these people our friends?
Can we let them inside of our defenses?
We must shun them away,
For they bring nothing but sorrow.
We must look them in the eyes,
And say to their face,
This is where I stand!
Right here!
With my FRIENDS!

Ourselves

Is it possible,
For us to understand,
To know,
Without a shadow of a doubt,
Ourselves?
We may think we know who we are,
Believe that we know ourselves better than anyone.
When in reality,
We are as clueless as the next person.
On many occasions we say that under a given circumstance,
We will react in a specific manner,
But when that moment comes,
Nothing but contradiction rings in the air.
Time and time again,
We say to the world,
This is who I am!
But this is all a lie.
We all find ourselves doing things,
We never thought we would do.
For reasons, we don't know.
People do crazy things,
When they are in love,
Lust,
Anger,
Isolation.
It's impossible to know how we will react,
Until faced with that obstacle,
Or challenge.
